Web 2.0 Means “Jack” to Online Marketers
Without a doubt, Web 2.0 is changing the face of the Internet. But what does Web 2.0 and social networking mean to online marketers or anyone wishing to get more traffic to their website or sell more of their stuff online?
Apparently, it means ‘Jack’.
According to Jack Humphrey of Social Power Linking and Authority Site Center fame, social networking should mean a lot to online marketers.
I was first introduced to Jack’s work through an traffic generation course put on be the Lead Supreme guys. I think there were probably 7 speakers but only two said anything new or interesting. The first was Mike Koenigs and the other was Jack Humphrey.
I’ve already mentioned Mike’s product here so let’s talk a little about what Jack does. Actually, before I do that, let me take a step back. Let’s begin but mentioning what Jack doesn’t do.
Basically, Jack doesn’t pay for traffic. He doesn’t do Pay per Click and he doesn’t buy link placement on other sites with high pagerank. Yet his blog, The Friday Traffic Report gets over 1,500 unique visitors a day and he has backlinks to his site from a large number of social networking sites, many of which have very impressive pagerank.
The results? His blog is the authority in his niche and he is killing in the search engines. But more importantly (to me anyway) is that he is generating tons of traffic and then funneling that traffic to his two money sites - Social Power Linking and the Authority Site Center. I don’t know how many member SPL has now but I heard somewhere that ASC is pulling in over $40K per month.
My point? I’m thinking that this is a guy I can learn something from.
So, now I’m a member of Social Power Linking. For a few bucks a month, the training that they have inside of their member’s area has been awesome and the forum is pretty active.
They also gave me a free copy of Web 2.0 Submitter with my membership. This is a cool little app that relieves some of the repetition of submitting your new posts to social bookmarking and social networking sites. I had already bought the software before but it was a nice gesture anyway.
However, I’m much more excited about what they call their ‘buzz group’. Essentially, to be successful marketing through social networking sites, your material must become popular. It becomes popular by a) being of good value and b) being voted on by other members of whatever social network you submit your stuff to.
In other words, you could get lucky and have a post go viral and generate tons of traffic back to your site just on its own merits. You could… but the truth is usually it needs a little push.
That is where the buzz group comes in. My membership to Social Power Linking should give me a pre-packaged group of friends eagerly awaiting my every post so they can vote me up the charts and up the search engine rankings.
OK, maybe I’m being a little overly optimistic. But if I even get a few people diggin’ my stuff I’ll be happy.
All that being said, I am going to take this about 60 steps further. A membership to SPL includes a 60 Day step-by-step plan to online success. I’ve already gone through it and there is a whack to do. However, I’m going to do something novel here.
I am going to do a live case study of the Social Power Linking tactics. I’m going to research a niche market, register a brand new domain, build out my WP blog according to the SPL guidelines and then follow the 60 Day Plan exactly as outlined. I will document everything on this blog so you can follow right along with me.
Sound good? Visit me tomorrow and I’ll have a new category just for this case study.
