Rant: Sick of Marketing

Let me begin this post by apologizing for being absent for awhile.  With the demise of my main job and traveling between Brazil and across Canada (Vancouver last week, Calgary now and Ontario next week) I’ve been swamped.

I’m in a weird mood today.  I’m sick of marketing.  Specifically, I’m sick of two groups of marketers.  First, the old-school clowns who still try to take and take and take without giving anything in return.

Second, I’m tired of the Internet Marketing guys.  Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate that they have given me a wealth of knowledge and tools to do what I’m able to do.  Of course, I’ve given them thousands and thousands of dollars in return so let’s call it a wash.

What is bothering me is how incestuous and leticious this crowd is.  Everyone is peddling the next great thing to people who actually believe that Get Rich Quick without working is an option.  Worse, these guys are all leveraging each other’s names and lists to do so.

The net result is that they keep creating more and more products but they keep selling them to the same people over and over.  Meanwhile, adding very little value to the world.

That being said, I want to take what I learn and market some really cool products for some nice, honest people.  With 2007 coming to a close, I think I’m going to make this one of my resolutions.
