Hiring a PPC Advertizing Company… or is it Advertising??
Whether you say a “PPC Advertizing company” or a “PPC Advertising company” make sure you know what you’re getting yourself into. Pay per click advertising is a science but it not that difficult to learn to do yourself.
It doesn’t require a lot of creativity or any particularly unique set of skills. What is required is that you understand how it works and be willing to do some testing before you risk huge amounts of dough.
Pay per click is a funny beast and very often, so are the businesses that claim they know what they’re doing. I’ll give you an example. I manage the Affiliate programs for a number of very large, high-profile websites and I get the odd sales call from a PPC Advertizing company.
The sales rep will tell me that he can generate X number of visitors to my site for Y dollars (cents) per visitor. He tells me that his PPC Advertizing company is the best use of my marketing dollars and that his approach of finding sales leads is the best there is?
Sometimes I’ll listen politely but anytime I get cold-called by any kind of advertising agency (other than a telemarketing firm) I can’t help but think, “Hmm, if your approach for generating sales is so good, why is it necessary for you to solicit me by phone?”
I always like to understand what is happening before I outsource anything. The same goes for considering any PPC Advertizing company.
