Crossfit Calgary Site Launches
I had originally created a blog for my buddy who had opened up Crossfit Calgary - not really a gym but rather a workout philosophy that taxes both the body and the mind.
He didn’t really have a chance to do much with the site before selling his business in June. The new owners of the business (and the site) liked what they saw and contacted me to update it and to tweak it a little bit.
The site is now ready to go at http://www.crossfitcalgary.ca/ and I am very curious to see what they are going to do with it. They have some fantastic ideas and they plan to update it on a regular basis with such things as a workout of the day, pictures and videos.
I am excited because this is exactly how these sites are supposed to be used. I originally created the site as a blog so that my buddy could update it himself - without being dependent on me or anyone else familiar with web programming. This allows the site owner much more flexibility AND it saves a ton of money on programming fees. Visitors are also much more likely to return to dynamic sites because they know that there will be something new each time they visit.
As I understand it, there are over 400 Crossfit affiliates with their own businesses now. Many have their own sites/blogs but I suspect that once Brett and Rhiannon - the new owners - build out the Crossfit Calgary site, it will put many of the others to shame. It isn’t that I did anything special but because WordPress is so easy to use and allows such flexibility, they are free to update and change the site as they wish.
In other words, they will not be limited by any programmer’s time or the cost to update a regular html site and they can do what they want, when they want with their site.
Exciting stuff!
